Odu Raja Odu
Make Real Media has undertaken the gargantuan task of completing more than 300 VFX shots for the upcoming film Odu Raja Odu produced by Candle Light Productions. These shots vary from normal Green Screen replacement to complex CG shots with multiple 3D elements and animation.
MRM was roped into the project early on by the directors Nishant and Jathin. After many pre-production meets to sort out the VFX pipeline, we went for the principal photography. The shoot happened in different schedules and MRM was present in all of them to help obtain the best footage for CG shots.
Although we handled varied shots for the project the ones that were the most fun to work on were the Palace Exterior, Interior and the Chase Sequence Shots.
Palace Shots
A chunk of the story happens in the sprawling premises of a palace that belongs to a mafia don. The team shot the plates at the AVM Gardens campus located in Chennai, and then passes on the plates to MRM.
Our job was to extend the set to make this look like a grand multistory palace with vast gardens.
We took several reference plates from the real location along with HDRI 360 degree photos for lighting information. Meanwhile our Matte Painting artist sketched out the proposed layout of the palace and got the approval of the directors.
Our 3D team then took over and brought the palace to life in all its glory.

3D set creation and extension
Due to our meticulous planning, we were able to seamlessly blend the CG render with the original live action plates.
We also did the interior of the palace and matched with live action shots.
Car Chase Sequence
The film involves a multi car highway pile-up with a petrol tanker and a lorry carrying wooden logs. Needless to say, all CG! The directors gave full control to the sequence to us and we had such a wonderful time crafting it.
